How To Exclude Your Filesystem From mlocate Scanning

mlocate can cause lots of I/O activity by scanning your filesystem nightly, impacting filesystem performance during the scan.

This guide covers the steps to exclude your ObjectiveFS filesystem from mlocate scanning and indexing.

Steps

  1. Edit /etc/updatedb.conf

  2. Add fuse.objectivefs to PRUNEFS

    PRUNEFS="fuse.objectivefs <other filesystems>"

  3. Alternatively, you can add your ObjectiveFS filesystem’s mount directory to PRUNEPATHS

    PRUNEPATHS="<your objectivefs mount directory> <other paths>"
